43% of Born Again Believers Voting for Obama

October 29, 2008 at 10:09 am (American Christianity) (, , , , )

This article illustrates just how confused the church in America has become.

According to Barna (who understands the subtleties of Christian voting tendencies very well) McCain has only a 2 point lead (45%) among self-identified born-again believers.

The Meaning of the Meltdown

October 13, 2008 at 4:47 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

I’m sitting in the Forerunner Christian Fellowship meeting – and am thrilled that I am hearing a clear, prophetic statement from Daniel Lim on why there is a global financial crisis.

“For thus says the LORD of hosts: “Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations,
and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts. ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the LORD of hosts. The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,’ says the LORD of hosts. ‘And in this place I will give peace,’ says the LORD of hosts.”   Haggai 2:6-9

To summarize: Today (as in the days of Haggai) God is shaking the house of man so that the House of God would be built, strengthened and glorified.

It is not a coincidence that the domino that set this chaos into motion was the American Dream of each person having their own household. The focus of the Christian West has been each man comfortable in his own castle. American confidence has been in our dream homes.

When the bubble burst, the dominoes fell down. Why? Because God wants America to be shaken out of our comfort and well being – and our focuse to shift back to building the House of God.

I believe whole-heartedly that Daniel Lim has the Word of the Lord on this matter. Check out his notes and the full teaching for more.

Case in Point: Sarah Palin is a New Esther

October 9, 2008 at 8:46 am (American Christianity, american civil religion, politics) (, , , )

I’ve tapered off in my post on American Civil Religion, but an email I received today sparked me to write again. The email illustrates exactly the danger I see in America of Christians aligning ourselves too closely with political candidates.

The email was about a pastor in OH who got a burden in prayer and is trumpeting Sarah Palin as an Esther for America.  Click to see prophecy.

I’m not interested in lambasting this guy making a call on whether He really heard from God or not – that’s between Him, the Lord and Sarah Palin.

My concern is the level of excitement in Christian circles over a political candidate. It appears that we are putting our faith in her. Do a web search for ‘lebanon OH’ – and you’ll see that this particular prophecy has many believers signing up to do battle for Sarah’s righteous candidacy. Personally, I think it’s great that she’s a Christian. I really like Christians.

But as I’ve said before: If Barack Obama is elected in November and the church does not faithfully pray for him as fervently as we are praying for Sarah Palin (one of ‘us’) then the church is in error. Jesus put it this way (italics mine):

If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the baby-killing liberals doing that? And if you greet only Spirit-filled, Bible believing Christians, what are you doing more than others? Do not even unrepentant homosexuals do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

I know those italics are a little provocative, but they capture the spirit of my point.

I want God’s mercy on this nation. I’m praying and hoping for it. I’m voting for life in November. Whatever comes, however, my job description and my hope does not change. November’s election doesn’t change anything for me but erasing George W. Bush’s name from my prayer list and adding a new name.

My desire is that many in the church in America would embrace the same spirit.
